Peach Festival is over.
Wine Festivus has not arrived.
This is the week in between, and Palisade spends it doing the thing it is quietly best at: harvesting fruit without an audience.
The calendar is nearly empty Monday and Tuesday.
It is nearly empty again on Labor Day Monday.
And then there is Saturday, which appears to have been scheduled by four people who were not speaking to each other.
Wednesday, September 2
The week's only weekday event is a business seminar held inside a distillery at noon.
Lunch & Learn: Break Through Your Business Ceiling runs from 12 to 1 p.m. at Peach Street Distillers, 144 Kluge Avenue, Building 2.
It is free for chamber members and $5 for everyone else.
Event detailsScheduling a talk about breaking through ceilings at a distillery is either excellent instinct or an unusually confident test of the attendees.
Peach Street DistillersFriday, September 4
Friday is the gentle version of a Palisade evening, offered twice.
Wine Down Friday runs from 3 to 8 p.m. at Restoration Vineyards, 3594 E 1/2 Road, with happy hour from 4 to 6.
The food trucks listed for this particular Friday are Pali Thai and Hawaii Street Food.
Restoration Vineyards eventsAcross town, Colterris Summer Sunsets runs from 5 to 8 p.m. at the winery on North River Road, with live music, local food trucks and estate-grown wine.
Colterris Summer SunsetsWorth knowing: the Summer Sunset series ends with Wine Festivus weekend on September 18 and 19, and the Colterris calendar currently shows only one more of these after this week, on September 11.
If you have been meaning to do this all summer, the summer is now specifically running out.
Saturday, September 5
Saturday is the problem.
Four things happen, and they do not politely take turns.
It begins reasonably. Vin.Yasa Yoga runs from 11 a.m. to noon at Carboy Winery, 3572 G Road. It is all levels, and it is $12 for the yoga alone or $37 with wine and snacks afterward.
Event detailsAt 1 p.m., Zolopht plays the Band in the Barrel series at Restoration Vineyards until 5.
It is free, reservations are encouraged, and the vineyard asks you to bring a blanket or a lawn chair because shade cannot be guaranteed.
Band in the Barrel: ZolophtAt 6 p.m., Carboy's Harvest Harmonies series brings Seth Walker, with special guest Alex Dunn, for a concert running to 9. Doors open at 5. General admission is $40 and VIP is $80.
Harvest Harmonies: Seth WalkerAnd at 7 p.m., Quemando plays Grande River Vineyards, 787 Grande River Drive. Nine pieces, salsa, and a stated intention to get the room dancing. Gates at 6. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door, and the evening benefits La Plaza here in Mesa County.
Grande River Vineyards eventsTwo notes, because this is exactly the sort of week where the listings disagree with each other.
The chamber calendar spells the salsa band “Quemondo.” Grande River spells it Quemando on its own events page and on the ticket link. The winery is presumably the authority on who is playing at the winery.
The chamber listing also shows a 6 to 9:30 p.m. window while Grande River lists the music itself from 7 to 9. Gates at 6, music at 7 is the sensible reading, but confirm with the venue rather than with a calendar aggregator.
Now the scheduling reality:
Zolopht finishes at 5. Carboy's doors open at 5. Those two chain together neatly, and they are both wine-country afternoons that end in music.
Seth Walker and Quemando do not chain together. They run against each other almost exactly, in different directions out of town.
You are going to have to choose. I am sorry.
Sunday, September 6
By Sunday, Palisade returns to the thing it does every week without needing to be asked.
The Palisade Sunday Farmers Market runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. downtown at Third and Main, with local musicians and rotating food trucks. The season continues through October 4.
Town of Palisade market informationEarly September is a genuinely good moment to shop it rather than a merely pleasant one, and the state's produce calendar is the honest guide to what is actually ready right now instead of what you assume is.
Colorado produce calendarOne practical note the Town makes itself: downtown construction is ongoing. Expect cones, and give yourself an extra minute to park.
If you would rather be handed brunch than shop for it, Restoration Vineyards runs Sunday Shuck & Sip, part of its Vineyard Brunch Series, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Sunday Shuck & SipOysters, in an orchard valley, six hundred miles from the nearest ocean.
Palisade has never been especially interested in your expectations.
Monday, September 7
Labor Day, and nothing is scheduled.
Not on the chamber calendar, not on the town calendar, and not on any of the winery calendars.
Tasting rooms generally keep some form of holiday hours, but none of them had posted Labor Day hours when this was written, so call before driving out rather than trusting a summer schedule that may have quietly ended.
This is not a gap in the week.
It is the last long weekend of the summer, and Palisade has just handed you a Saturday you will need a Monday to recover from.
